Abstract

Nominare il male: sovranità, sicurezza e guerra illegale

Questo articolo sostiene l'importanza fondamentale del "nominare il male" come operazione costitutiva del discorso politico moderno. Per raggiungere questo obiettivo, l'articolo richiama innanzitutto l'attenzione su come i discorsi istituzionali e pubblici globali e apparentemente consensuali abbiano definito lo Stato Islamico dell'Iraq e della Siria (ISIS) come una forma contemporanea di "male" e come la comunità internazionale abbia concepito il suo posizionamento nei confronti di questa entità. Attingendo a questa analisi e alla storia delle prime lotte moderne contro i pirati e i "nemici dell'umanità", l'articolo mostra che la modernità politica non è riuscita a cancellare la pratica "arcaica" di nominare il male, bensì vi ha costantemente fatto affidamento. Per corroborare questa affermazione, l'articolo identifica i modelli discorsivi e gli effetti pratici della denominazione del male, ed evidenzia la relazione ambivalente tra la denominazione del male e la sovranità e la sicurezza come pietre miliari della modernità politica. L'articolo conclude affrontando la questione di sapere se, e fino a che punto, il concetto di male può essere criticato e scartato, come alcuni studiosi hanno sostenuto.
